so much to do! so much to consider!

I admit it. I have been on a crusade. From the earliest days of starting my newsletter, I have wanted others to come along. I have been trying to oonvert you. I want you to see the light. Suffice it to say that I saw a good thing and wanted to share it.

Today’s post — or should I say list — I built from my notes on the Cannes panel for the TL;DR crowd. I’ve also refined it quite a bit since, so… even if you read that prior post from that panel, I think you should give it a read.

If you aspire to make or support ambitiously authored cinema, I’d like to be the coach in your corner, or perhaps the shaman on your journey. I’d settle to be the friend of the project. Whatever your poison, consider this newsletter part of the practice, and to get the full effect you need to subscribe. You can always go introductory route and subscribe for free, but full experience you must be a paid subscriber. If the current circumstances, don’t allow you the financial resources to do so, just let me know, and I will gift you until better times arrive.

Why All Filmmakers Should Build Their Own Audience:

  1. Think / envision the world you want to live in. Practice Utopian ideation. How are you going to get there? I am willing to bet that NOT being dependent on other platforms and corporations for the relationship with those who love your art most, will figure in to the solution.

  2. Recognize the world you live in — among other things this is the era of cultural abundance & constant distraction (their plan was to flood the zone).

  3. The triangle of audience elevation.

  4. Consider how you are going to move where we are closer to where you want to be. Aggregating the people you want to connect with in advance is going to be of help.

  5. Chances are no one is going to acquire your film, at least not in every territory and on every media channel. As much as we hope our film will be acquired by a distributor with funds, time, and love — chances are they won’t. BE PREPARED.
