When I was younger, I used to travel to film festivals regularly, but now not only do I not have the time, but I also no longer have the energy. As for a film I have written and/or produced, I would only enter in a festival if it had not only a good chance to be accepted to the competition, but a very good chance of winning a prize. Otherwise, it could be a major waste of time. I am more interested in finding an audience in other ways.
Some people don't take public transportation, even though it is available and not only they -- but everyone else too -- would benefit if they do.
Some people don't believe that we should aspire (and deliver) free education, certainly K-12, but through college if you ask me, although they -- and everyone else too -- would benefit if they do.
Luckily with the film festival system though, you don't need to participate and it will not be harmed nor will film culture suffer. And for some, maybe you, it won't affect your film.
I respect your right to have a choice, and I respect your opportunity to share your opinion FF, but I encourage you to write a post on your own stack about why you don't participate in a common good. I for one will read it. But please recognize that there is a huge benefit festivals offer many films and they shouldn't be blindly dismissed.
